Dimensions and architecture of late Pleistocene submarine lobes off the northern margin of East Corsica ArchiMer
Deptuck, M; Piper, D; Savoye, Bruno; Gervais, A.
Sandy lobe deposits on submarine fans are sensitive recorders of the types of sediment gravity flows supplied to a basin and are economically important as hydrocarbon reservoirs. This study investigates the causes of variability in 20 lobes in small late Pleistocene submarine fans off East Corsica. These lobes were imaged using ultra-high resolution boomer seismic profiles (< 1 m vertical resolution) and sediment type was ground truthed using piston cores published in previous studies. Repeated crossings of the same depositional bodies were used to measure spatial changes in their dimensions and architecture. Most lobes increase abruptly down-slope to a peak thickness of 8 to 42 m, beyond which they show a progressive, typically more gradual, decrease...

Estudio de la morfometría de las sagittae en poblaciones de sciaenidos marinos de aguas cálidas del Perú y aguas templado-frías de Argentina OceanDocs
Volpedo, A..
Otoliths (sagitta, asteriscus and lapillus)are complex structures composed of calcium carbonate, other minerals, and a protein matrix. Otoliths are located in the internal ear of the teleost fishes. The shape and structure of otoliths are specific for each species. For this reason, otoliths are used to identify species in biological and ecological studies.Sciaenids conform a group of fishes of commercial importance, so the handling of this resource is a high-priority topic for the local and national economies of countries that exploit these species. The purpose of this work is to study different aspects of the sagittae of marine sciaenids from Argentina and Peru. The morphology, morphometry and chemical composition has been analyzed in relation to the...

Influence of Food Extruder Die Dimensions on Extruded Products Expansion CIGR Journal
Adekola, Kehinde Adedeji.
This paper studied the effects of food extruder die dimensions on the extrudate expansion indices using twin-screw extruder. The extruder has 59.6 mm screw diameter and screw L/D ratio of 20. The die dimensions considered are die length, die diameter and die temperature. The feed material used is yellow corn flour. Dies with diameter ranging from 2.5 – 5.0 were used to determine the effect of die nozzle diameter on extrudate expansion. Results obtained showed that radial expansion of the extrudate decreased with increasing die diameter. An average reduction of about 42% in radial expansion was recorded for a difference of 2 mm in die diameter. The overall expansion of the extrudate was not affected by changes in die diameter for all the diameters and...

SUSTAINABILITY DIMENSIONS AND INCOME PROSPECTS FOR THE FARMING SYSTEMS IN THE NEW MEMBER STATES AgEcon
Cristoiu, Adriana; Cobos, Blanca Lucena; Caceres-Clavero, Francisco.
An investigation carried out at the farming system level on the sustainability dimensions and agricultural income prospects in the Czech Republic and Lithuania under the implementation of the 2003 common agricultural policy reform reveals (a) the economic dimension as the leading one in terms of the overall sustainability rank position farming systems achieved, and (b) that under certain policy scenario assumptions, adoption of energy crops (Czech Republic) or conversion to organic farming (Lithuania) trigger potentially the highest farm gross income at the 2013 time horizon.
